Committed, Connected and Competitive

A friendship that has stood the test of time is Herman Chalupsky and Wayne Ashford - business partners in Chalupsky Properties.

Herman and Wayne first met when they were in High School and spend many hours hanging out on the beach. They demonstrated their entrepreneurial flair as teenagers by fishing and selling their catches to local restaurants for pocket money. Both very active sportsmen, they trained together and enjoyed many a welcome meal either at the Ashford home across from Snake Park Beach or with the Chalupsky Clan in Westville.

As an alternative to paddling and lifesaving training, Herman and Wayne also enjoyed some fun tennis duels with friends Gary Myers and Malcolm Hall.

It was not all training and sports though. The two were familiar faces at The Barn enjoying The Blarney Brothers on a Friday night at the then Athlone Hotel (now Riverside Hotel.)  Slippers Boogie Palace at the Los Angeles Hotel was also a firm favourite for the friends, which they could get to thanks to Herman's new car - a 121 Mazda which he purchased for R150.

The two have paddled many races together over the years, both here in South Africa as well as travelling to Hawaii, Australia and Mauritius to compete. Wayne even joined the Chalupsky family in Germany to celebrate their Oma's 100th birthday in Freiburg.

Career wise, once they had both completed compulsory National Service, Wayne started Ashford Automation selling cordless phones, faxes, copiers and other office machinery with Herman until Herman left to work for Maxprop. Herman formed Rees Chalupsky Property Specialists together with Dave Rees when he left Maxprop a few years later.

After many years, Wayne sold Ashford Automation and joined Rees Chalupsky. Herman then started Chalupsky Properties which Wayne became a partner in a year later. The rest, as they say, is history as 25 years later Chalupsky Properties and Herman and Wayne's friendship is still going strong.

Together Chalupsky and Ashford have grown Chalupsky Properties into the leading Commercial and Industrial Property company in Durban. Their shared passion for the property industry has kept them Committed, Connected and Competitive...and Companions for life.
